These terms cover the use of the have a band desktop application and website. By installing the app or buying a license you agree to them.
have a band is a practice tool. It takes a song you bring to it and splits it into separate instrument tracks on your own computer, so you can turn off the instrument you play, play along with the rest of the band, follow the lyrics or the drum score, and record yourself over it. It exists for studying and rehearsing a part, the same reason a musician has always slowed a record down to learn a lick.
have a band is a practice tool, with no music catalogue or song recommendations. You choose the audio to bring. In the current Windows version, audio capture, stem separation and drum transcription happen on your computer. HAB does not upload that audio or publish your tracks. Connected features and the older Mac version are explained in our Privacy Policy.
On Windows and Mac, you can open an audio file stored on your computer. On Windows 11, you can also start computer audio capture: HAB listens to the audio playing on your computer after you turn capture on. When you finish, you name the artist and song and confirm before separation starts. Computer audio capture is not currently available on Mac.
On the current Windows version, the free allowance is 20 minutes of source audio in total, shared between computer-audio captures and files. There is no limit in days or number of songs. Once the allowance is used, adding new songs requires a license. Songs already in your library remain available for playback, practice and recording. Deleting songs does not restore the allowance. The current Mac download still uses its previous trial: 3 days and up to 5 songs, with activation required after it ends.
If the app is not for you, write to support@haveaband.app within 7 days of purchase and we refund you. A refund deactivates the license key.
You choose what to capture or open and how to use it. You are responsible for those choices and for your use of the content. HAB does not check the source of the audio or whether a particular use is permitted. These terms do not change the rights that apply to the music.
The app is designed for private music practice and education: learning a part, rehearsing, playing along and recording your own performance. Separating instruments does not give you new rights to publish, broadcast, share or sell someone else’s music. The rules that apply to the recording still apply to its separated tracks.
have a band captures the computer audio you choose and separates the instruments locally to help you study and practise music.
You start and stop capture. HAB does not select the music for you or verify its source. It does not publish your captured audio or separated stems, and it does not provide a way to share those stems.
To find or translate lyrics, song information and lyrics text may be sent to online services. Your captured audio and stems are not sent with those requests. The app does not verify whether your intended use is permitted; responsibility for your choices and use remains with you.
If you use the app for anything unlawful, that is on you, and we may deactivate the license.
The app is provided "as is". Audio separation is done by a machine learning model and results vary by song. We do our best to keep everything working, but we do not guarantee the app will be error-free or that third-party services it relies on, such as lyrics databases, will keep working forever.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability related to the app is limited to the amount you paid for your license.
To the extent the law allows, if someone brings a claim against us because of material you chose to bring into the app, or because of what you did with the separated tracks, you agree to cover the reasonable cost of dealing with it. We supply a tool; the decision about what to run through it is yours.

If these terms change in a meaningful way, the date at the top changes and the new version is published on this page.
have a band is made and sold from Brazil, so Brazilian law is what reads this agreement. That is only about which law interprets the text if we ever disagree, and it takes nothing away from you: wherever you live, you keep every consumer right your own country gives you, including local refund and warranty rules, and nothing here overrides them. In practice the promises above are the ones that matter, and the refund window is open to everyone, everywhere.
