Privacy Policy

have a band is a desktop application that splits songs into separate instrument
tracks and lets you play and record along. It was built to work on your machine,
not on ours. This policy explains the little that leaves your computer, and why.
The short version
- There is no account and no login. Player profiles (name, avatar, language) live
only on your computer and are never sent to us.
- In the current Windows version, your songs, captured audio, separated stems and recordings are processed and stored locally. HAB does not upload that audio or publish your tracks. The older Mac version has an optional online notation feature, explained below.
- We do not run analytics, ads or tracking inside the app.
- This website (not the app) uses Google Analytics to count visits
anonymously (details below).
What the app sends over the internet
A few features need the network. Each one sends only what it needs:
- License activation. When you activate a license key, the app sends the
key, an anonymous machine identifier (a one-way hash derived from your
operating system installation, it does not identify you personally) and your
computer's name to our server, so the key can be tied to up to 2 computers.
The app may re-check the license status when it starts.
- Your free song allowance. The current Windows app sends a technical machine identifier and the total source-audio time used, in milliseconds, to our trial service. We keep that total so reinstalling the app or deleting songs does not reset the allowance. This counter does not send audio, song titles or artist names.
- Computer audio capture. Capture and separation run locally. The captured audio and separated stems are not sent to an online service. The artist and song name you provide can be used for the lyrics lookup described below.
- Lyrics lookup. The app sends the song title, artist and duration to LRCLIB to find synced lyrics. If that service is unavailable, it can use our backup service, which also receives a technical machine identifier to manage usage. These services receive your IP address as part of the connection. No audio is sent.
- Lyrics translation. When you request a translation, the lyrics text and target language go to our service and then to Google Gemini. No captured audio or stems are included.
- Support. When you contact us in the app, your name, email, message and technical app information are sent to our support service and email provider, Resend. If you choose to include the technical log, it may contain song names and local file paths. Audio files are not attached.
- Older Mac version. The current Mac download (0.12.1) still offers optional online drum notation through drumdesync PRO. If you request a new score in that version, it sends the separated drums and a backing-audio mix to that service for transcription. This is different from local song separation. The current Windows version generates drum notation locally and does not use this upload path.
- Engine setup and updates. Depending on your installer, the engine is included or its components are downloaded from official sources and our distribution storage. The website version can check for app updates; Microsoft Store installations receive app updates through the Store. These requests do not include your audio.
This website
haveaband.app (the website you are reading, not the desktop app) uses
Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics 4 to understand how many
people visit and which pages they read, so we can make the product better. This
sets Google cookies (such as _ga) in your browser and shares your
page visits and an approximate location (derived from your IP) with Google.
We see aggregated, anonymous numbers only, never your name, and never anything
from inside the app. We do not run ads and we do not sell data.
You can refuse or remove these cookies in your browser settings, or use
Google's own opt-out add-on.
The "OK" on our cookie notice is remembered in your browser only.
Purchases
Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.
When you buy a license we receive your email address and the payment confirmation,
and we use your email once to send you the license key (delivered through Resend,
our email provider). Purchase records are kept for accounting and support.
What we store
We keep records needed for licenses, purchases, trials and connected features, along with the messages you send to support. Our services may keep technical request logs and usage counters for reliability and abuse prevention. We do not receive your captured audio, separated stems or local recordings through these services.
Your rights
You can ask us to show or delete the data linked to your license at any time by
writing to support@haveaband.app. Note
that deleting your license records also deactivates the license.
Changes
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, the date at the top changes and the
new version is published on this page.
